ABOUT

Born in Washington, DC, raised in Maryland, and cultivated in Philadelphia, PA

Noelle has been working as a professional theatre artist in the Greater Philadelphia Region for the past decade.

An Actor, Production & Stage Manager, Director, Intimacy Consultant and Coordinator, Administrator, Entrepreneur, and Business Owner, Noelle has worked for multiple venues in different capacities.

Credits include the Wilma Theater (Fat Ham, filmed regional premiere and Minor Character), The Cherry Orchard, Fairview, Philadelphia Theatre Company (The Garbologist, Choir Boy), Theatre Horizon (A New Brain, Grand Concourse, The Agitators, Art Houses series, TJ Loves Sally 4Ever), The Lantern Theater Company (Fabulation), Simpatico Theatre Company (Cry It Out), Theatre in the X (The Beast of Nubia), FringeArts (The Underground Railroad Game), and Playbill (one in two), among many others.

Noelle’s journey to rediscover her love for dance, movement, and poetry through healing the body somatically has led her to choreograph, direct, and produce short films in which she aims to guide viewers through a journey of healing through movement-poetry. This work includes a short film titled DAUGHTERS which premiered through a collaboration with FringeArts and original choreography and dance piece for The Bearded Ladies Black Femme Magic showcase.

When outside of the theatre or performance space Noelle enjoys and expresses her creativity through fashion and styling and pursues her desire to be a fashion stylist and designer for artists in the process of branding and embracing their unique voice.

Noelle is also the Founder & Owner of Artists Heal ®. She seeks to create an industry shift by dismantling systems and structures of White Supremacy through healing and creating sustainable change within Arts organizations and institutions through artistic and trauma-informed practice.

This mission culminates over a decade of living in, growing to love, and working in Philadelphia as an Artist and Artist Advocate.

What to see next

Stories in my Mother Tongue written and performed by Noelle Diane Johnson explores the inextricable relationship between joy and grief and the process of return and rediscovery through the power of healing and acceptance.

Stories in my Mother Tongue asks what it means when the body remembers, how to reclaim lost languages, and find your way home all while dancing to a rhythm uniquely yours. How, when, and why do we tell the stories that make us whole?

Through dance, poetry, music and movement this author invites audiences into the exploration of the process of making peace with aspects of faith, identity, and the culmination of the experiences of the past.
